Fresh surface solves safety concerns

courts June 4. Work is being done on the north courts to
repair the concrete and resurface the area.

Concerns for player safety prompted school officials to spend $51,000 to resurface the six tennis courts at Hastings High during the off-season.

The courts had been in serious need of repair for some time, said Jeff Schneider, the district's director of finance.

"Really we've kind of put it off but it got to the point on the north courts where we were starting to get concerned with safety," Schneider said. "We had a guy-wire holding up a pole, which was a pretty big safety issue."
