Airman welcomed back to Hastings

Airman Ryan Fitzgerald of Hastings holds his four-year-old
son, Sylo, Wednesday afternoon. Fitzgerald, his wife,
Heather (left) and Sylo rode down Burlington Ave. in a
parade as supporters welcomed him home from a year of
service in South Korea.

After traveling 24 hours straight, Airman Ryan Fitzgerald was welcomed home Thursday by assembled crowds along Burlington Avenue.

Fitzgerald, who was stationed in South Korea, came home to Hastings after serving overseas for a year.

He was treated to a small parade in a new convertible, complete with police cars leading the way and the Patriot Riders motorcycle group and a fire truck following in the procession.

"It is awesome," Fitzgerald said as he climbed out of the back seat of a Camaro at the south end of Burlington. "I traveled 24 hours to get back from South Korea. It is very inspirational seeing everyone come out and welcome me home."
