If you like books, the Hastings Public Library has a special treat for you.

This weekend is the 31st annual Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Hastings City Auditorium, 400 N. Hastings Ave.

The “Big Top Book Sale” begins Friday from 5-9 p.m. The Friday event is “preview night,” and there is a $5 admission fee to have first crack at the books.

Saturday the sale is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours are noon to 4 p.m. There is no admission fee Saturday or Sunday.
To open the day, Debbie Holmberg, a sale veteran of 12 years, told the large group of teenage volunteers, “Our job is to move the sorted boxes from the basement to the auditorium.”

Holmberg said she volunteers every year for the sale because she is a teacher.

“I believe in reading. We want to get books into everybody’s hands,” she said.
