City picks partners for downtown development

In a special meeting Thursday night, the Hastings City Council unanimously selected two partners to be the developers for the mixed use downtown redevelopment project adjacent to the City Auditorium.

Chief Industries Construction of Grand Island and WRK Real Estate of Lincoln will offer their expertise on the proposed project.

Hastings Mayor Vern Powers said the council and a citizen review committee have been listening to presentations from potential developers over the last two months.

“The purpose for tonight’s meeting is discussion and possible action on the downtown redevelopment project, which we have been working on for quite a long time,” Powers said.
