Then & Now: Book sale gets bigger

In a photo taken July 17, 1995, Bobbie Scheidies, a volunteer
for the Friends of Hastings Public Library, sorts books for the
book sale at the City Auditorium.

THEN: When the Friends of the Hastings Public Library hosted the first book sale in 1984, a total of $806.72 was raised in one day.

NOW: Today, the annual sale spans a total of three days, bringing in bibliophiles and book dealers from across the Midwest and raising more than $20,000 for the library.

"I've never seen a stack as big as this," Debbie Holmberg, the 2013 book sale coordinator said Wednesday of the book collection.
