Petition drive against Superior leaders hits snag
SUPERIOR — Although the collection of petition signatures seeking the recall of four elected city officials here has been suspended for now due to a problem with the petition forms, one of the circulators says he and his associates plan to press forward.
Nuckolls County Clerk Jackie Kassebaum said Thursday morning that she had called the petition circulators Wednesday afternoon, immediately after confirming a paperwork problem, and advised them not to go to any more work gathering signatures on the invalid forms.
It is up to the petition circulators to decide whether to restart the process, Kassebaum said. But one of the circulators, Melvin “Butch” Reiman, told the Tribune shortly thereafter that the circulators already had met and agreed to regroup and continue their efforts.
The petition forms were taken out over the last 10 days against Mayor Sonia Schmidt and three of the six members of the Superior City Council.
