The eight-member board of Friends of the Hastings Public Library is expected to announce its collective resignation today in a letter to the library board and Friends volunteers, a Friends board member said this morning.
Board member Honey Lou Bonar said she isn’t sure how or if the board’s resignation will impact the future of the Friends’ annual book sale. Friends also maintains an online book sales presence and a shop at the library.
“Our fervent prayer is that the book sale will continue because it’s such a wonderful tool for literacy and community service for all ages,” Bonar said. “There is so much uncertainty right now.”
Amy Hafer, library director, said she had not received the letter as of this morning.
“We haven’t talked to any of the members of the board, so I don’t know what their plans are at this point,” Hafer said.
