Russ's updates plan for new store

The expansion of Russ's Market will now include a second floor mezzanine level, an improved truck loading bay and landscaping and aesthetic designs.

The Hastings City Planning Commission approved those changes in the original site plan submitted by Russ's owner B&R Stores during Monday's regular meeting, following significant discussion and modifications to the application recommended by city staff.

The original Russ's site plan, which was approved by the planning commission and City Council in spring 2012, has been updated to include the mezzanine level, eliminate the initially proposed gas station, and meet city requirements for drainage, traffic flow, neighborhood impact and site aesthetics.

"I think we're zeroing in," said Steve Richardson, store manager. "I think some eyebrows may have been raised at the meeting because people felt that what was presented previously in 2012 had been taken away. Changes have been made, but we still have an excellent plan. The design of the landscaping will still be very visible and nice for the location."
