Out with the old Russ's building

The front of the old Russ's Market building is torn down
Tuesday afternoon.

Demolition began Tuesday afternoon on a building that had been used as a grocery store in Hastings for almost 50 years.

Passersby of the busy Seventh Street and Burlington Avenue intersection couldn't help but notice that crews were tearing down the east side of the old Russ's Market building.

Store manager Steve Richardson said pieces of the 23,000-square-foot building will be torn down through the end of the week, as crews work their way to the western wall, which is closest to the new store that opened behind the old structure last month.
