FACES OF BUSINESS: Baack to lead United Way campaign

Matt Baack, chair of the United Way fundraising campaign
for 2013-14, is pictured at the Hastings Area Chamber of
Commerce and United Way offices Wednesday afternoon.

The $455,000 campaign being championed by the United Way of South Central Nebraska in its fundraising year doesn't intimidate Matt Baack.

In fact, the campaign's locally focused slogan—"Raised Here, Stays Here"—resembles just the kind of lens through which Baack views much of his livelihood as a Hastings resident and a central Nebraska native.

As of July 1, the Holdrege-born man started his position as chairman of the United Way's 2013-14 fundraising campaign after serving as a business contact and spokesman for the organization for several years already.

"I think anything you can do to give money back to the place where you make your money is important," Baack said. "Those who are less fortunate are closer than you think a lot of times."
