Letter delivered 46 years later

A letter sent in 1967 finally reached its destination nearly 50 years later.

While in National Guard basic training in Ft. Lewis, Wash., Jerry Pontow sent a letter to his 10-year-old brother, Dale.

Dale wouldn't see the letter — and neither would Jerry, for that mater — until early July 2013.

The letter was purchased, along with postcards and other old documents, by Hastings resident Ed Randolph at a garage sale in July.

"It really didn't have any value for me, it wasn't really what I was looking for, but I thought 'Well, I'll just take it,'" Randolph said. "I think I paid maybe 50 cents for the whole thing."
