Quick thinking brings replacement for no-show carnival

BLADEN — This year’s Webster County Fair crowd wasn’t greeted with the carnival rides kids of all ages have enjoyed in the past.

The Webster County Agricultural Society hit a roadblock as the fair was about to begin. The carnival the fair board had booked for this year, Midwest Attractions out of Texas, didn’t show up as planned.

When board members tried to contact the company, the calls went unanswered. It became obvious that there would be no rides from that company this year.

Board member Sylvia Fink worked to find replacement attractions for the fair. Fink was able to contact More Than Games LLC from Crete and other various suppliers on behalf of the board and arrange for some replacement attractions.

Activities included a zip line, rock wall, mechanical bull, bouncy house, wacky house, baseball game, duck pond, two ring toss games, basketball game, dart board, horse rides, children’s train and laser tag. The variety of activities opened for the enjoyment of all ages, with many of the attractions manned by volunteers interested in helping with the success of the fair.
