FACES OF TRIBLAND: Hawthorne teacher’s classroom like home

Julie Parker, who was named Hastings Public Schools
Educator of the Year, is shown July 22 in her kindergarten
classroom at Hawthorne Elementary.

As a kindergarten teacher at Hawthorne Elementary School, Julie Parker doesn’t get to sit down much. And she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I could never imagine sitting behind a desk every day; never,” Parker said. “No matter how much you paid me, I couldn’t do it. I love to just go, go, go all day long.”

The self-professed kindergarten expert, who has taught in Hastings for 21 years, was presented with the Hastings Public Schools Educator of the Year award in May at a school assembly at Hawthorne.
