DONIPHAN — One person died in a vehicle rollover Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 281 south of here.
Two others were injured in the crash, which occurred about 7:42 p.m., according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
A Chevrolet Blazer and a pickup reportedly were traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 281 near Rainforth Road at the time of the incident. The driver of the Blazer went into the passing lane and attempted to overtake the pickup. The driver of the pickup then reportedly went into the passing lane, and the Blazer swerved to avoid a collision.
The driver of the Blazer managed to avoid being struck but overcorrected. The Blazer went out of control and rolled into the median. The vehicle landed in the northbound lane of the highway and blocked traffic for about two hours.
The names of the person killed and the injured have not been released.
The injured were taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, but one was then lifeflighted to an Omaha hospital.
