The rain dances worked and prayers were answered Sunday night and early Monday morning.
For the first time in 20 days, Hastings received rainfall. The city had .54 inches overnight, according to the Nebraska Rainfall Assessment and Information Network. Mike Moritz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hastings, said there was .47 inches of rainfall at the NWS office north of Hastings.
The area to the southeast of Hastings in Nuckolls and Thayer counties received more rain, with some places getting more than 1 inch.
“There was a stripe kind of along Highway 6, and there were little pockets of heavier rain,” Moritz said. “One of them was in the Heartwell and Kenesaw area. Another one was in parts of central Clay County.”
