Mead moves into new office

Mike Mead is the new public defender.

Since being selected as Adams County Public Defender, Mike Mead of Juniata has made several changes to the office.

The Adams County Board of Supervisors appointed Mead, 46, as county public defender June 25 to finish the four-year term vacated with the May 24 death of Arthur Toogood. Toogood was the public defender since 1983 and was most recently elected in 2012.

Mead found himself working between two offices as he attempted to get a handle on the caseload left by his predesesor.

“We’ve made tremendous advancements in these past weeks,” he said. “It was intense work to get the old case work under control.”
