FPB drops close game to Southeast

Five Points Bank's Jon Blazer bats against Lincoln Southeast
Sunday at Duncan Field.

Lincoln Southeast defeated Hastings Five Points Bank 7-6 in extra innings Sunday at Duncan Field.

FPB coach Steve Illingworth said he was proud of his team's effort, which marks the 11th loss for the Hastings senior American Legion baseball team in the past 12 games.

Sunday's competition against Southeast was supposed to be a doubleheader, but Illingworth had to call and make the change to one nine-inning game after three of his players suffered injuries in a 14-4 loss to Lincoln Northeast on Saturday. FPB now has four players out.

"People just don't know how beat up we are," he said. "We're pretty shorthanded right now and trying to do the best we can. But I loved the way our guys came out and competed tonight. It's a disappointing loss, but the positive is that, even as down as we are with the injuries and the string of losses, I was really proud of our players tonight."
