Late-inning surge dooms Doniphan-Trumbull

Doniphan-Trumbull's Tanner Taylor pitches against USave
Pharmacy Monday night in Doniphan.

DONIPHAN — The Doniphan-Trumbull senior American Legion baseball team had momentum in its favor late in Monday's game.

D-T cut the USave Pharmacy lead to 6-4 in the fifth inning. But in the top of the sixth, the Grand Island-based team stomped out any chance of a comeback.

USave Pharmacy scored eight runs in the final two innings as Doniphan-Trumbull fell 14-4.

"After a rough start, I thought our kids competed, we had a bunch of baserunners and had a chance to put a lot of pressure on them," said Doniphan-Trumbull coach Steve Hartman. "It came down to throwing the ball across the plate."
