Weather postpones Cornhusker League championship

Hastings Vinny Schmidt dives safely back into first on a
pickoff attempt Monday night at Sherman Field in Lincoln.

The Johnson Imperial Homes American Legion baseball team traveled to Lincoln on Monday to take on Lincoln Sandhills Publishing (Pius) in the Cornhusker League championship at Sherman Field.

Unfortunately, an outcome was not reached as the game was postponed in the fourth inning due to weather.

Hastings went into the fourth inning, trailing 1-0, but scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Lincoln tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but the game was delayed due to lightning and eventually postponed.

A makeup date has not yet been set.

JIH had won five of its last six games heading into the league championship. Hastings has just seven games left on the schedule until its area tournament, which begins on July 18. Johnson Imperial Homes is scheduled to play Lincoln Southeast in a doubleheader today. The first game is set for 5 p.m.
