Geneva State Bank wins Pony title
Of all things, it may have been a golf ball that helped the Geneva State Bank baseball team knock off Wells Fargo Foundation 7-5 to win the Pony League Championship at Duncan Field on Sunday.
The ball — which carried the inscription "Hope" — would be tossed around by the players, and it helped create some postseason momentum after the team lost its last three regular season games to finish 6-6.
The team turned things around in the tournament, where it entered as the third seed.
"They finally started playing ball and began believing in themselves," said Geneva State Bank head coach Todd Olson. "Everybody would catch that little ball, and it was really cool. They played well as a team."
