JIH splits doubleheader

Johnson Imperial Homes' Broc Drehr makes a catch in
centerfield during the second inning of the first game against
Lincoln High Wednesday night at Duncan Field.

There are some baseball game where a team wins a game it shouldn't and then loses one that was within its control most of the game.

The Johnson Imperial Homes American Legion baseball team was an example of that Wednesday.

JIH defeated Lincoln High 12-11 in game one of a doubleheader, despite committing eight errors. Hastings then lost the nightcap 11-9 when Lincoln High scored five runs in the sixth inning.

"We told (the players) sometimes you have to win games you don't deserve. I don't know if that was necessarily the case there, but we needed a win and got it when we needed it," said JIH coach Russ Kindig.
