FPB goes 3-1 at own tourney

There may be a new awning, press box and seats, but one visage of Duncan Field that hasn’t changed in the recent renovations is the deep, brick wall that reaches 408 feet out to center field.

In the last game of the season at home, the Hastings Five Points Bank senior American Legion baseball team paid homage to the big ballpark by playing it perfectly. That is, getting the job done with singles in the gap or seeing-eye fly balls rather than deep, powerful extra base hits.

All nine of FPB’s hits were singles — including five in a row during the decisive 9-run bottom of the fifth inning — in an 11-1 win over Papillion La-Vista South Associated Fire on Sunday, putting the lid on a 3-1 showing in the Johnny Hopp tournament.
