Emerson ready for new role
Who is this guy?
When the Hastings Tribune reported Thursday that Hastings High was going to name Erik Emerson as the new head football coach, that question probably lingered around the community.
Many might know him as a sixth-grade science teacher at Hastings Middle School, a position he has had for six years. Prior to that, he taught at Hawthorne Elementary for four years.
But during that time, he also quietly built an impressive resume through the middle school and high school football programs — enough that it helped him earn a job he has been working toward.
At Monday's Hastings Board of Education meeting, it was made official that Emerson was the new leader of the Tigers.
"This was something that I always wanted to do," Emerson said in a phone interview this morning.
