JIH beats Kearney 4-2 in area

The Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes junior American Legion baseball team is one step closer to winning the Class A, Area 7 juniors championship as it held off a late rally by Kearney Post 52 to earn a 4-2 victory on Friday night at Duncan Field.

The win advances JIH to a semifinals bout with the winner between Lexington and North Platte on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.. Hastings recently outscored Lexington 35-1 in a doubleheader back on June 8 and also swept two games from North Platte on June 10. JIH improved to 3-1 against Kearney this season.

Hastings led 4-1 heading into the final inning, but Kearney Post 52 loaded the bases after JIH starter Matt Krontz gave up a hit and two walks.
