Youth aplenty, Sutton back at state

In all likelihood, this was supposed to be the year where Sutton's dominance of Class C American Legion baseball would finally recede.

With the cornerstone of a program that's won three consecutive state championships, Steve Spongberg, moving on to coach at Hastings College, as well as plenty of significant starters leaving due to graduation, the Mustangs had plenty of obstacles blocking the way of a possible four-peat.

But, thanks to a gutsy performance in the Class C, Area 6 tournament, the Mustangs will be back in familiar territory when they begin Class C tournament play tonight at 8 p.m. against Hebron at the Hebron Sports Complex.
