Sutton seeks three-peat at state tourney

The Sutton American Legion baseball team has become a force to be reckoned with in Class C.

After winning the juniors state championship in 2011, Sutton repeated last year in the seniors division.

On Saturday, Sutton will take the first step toward a three-peat when it faces O'Neill at 8 p.m. in the first round of the Class C state tournament in O'Neill.

"When you play as the host school is the crowd is behind you. The adrenaline for the kids playing is really high," Sutton Coach Steve Spongberg said. "I told our kids, you have to kind of weather the storm early in the game and try to get the game to settle into a situation where you have the opportunity to be successful."
