HEBRON — The Hebron senior American Legion baseball team is only in the Class C state tournament because its the host this year.

But what the team did over the weekend in the first two rounds of play stops any argument that it doesn’t belong in the bracket.

Hebron advanced to the quarterfinals Sunday with a 3-2 win over Creighton in a nine-inning game. But its most memorable performance of the tournament was a 6-0 win over Sutton on Saturday, as Caleb Goedeken and Ben Baden combined to pitch a no-hitter.

“We were ready to come back after a few losses at districts. We wanted to show that we weren’t just going to come here and go two and out,” said Goedeken, whose team will take on Shelton-Gibbon tonight at 8. “We wanted to play.”

After the first round loss, Sutton bounced back with an 8-4 victory over Crofton in an elimination game on Sunday. The Mustangs face elimination once again this afternoon at 2 p.m. against Wymore.
