OMAHA — Going into Monday, the American Division of the Class A state tournament had not seen a final score end with a differential of fewer than four runs. But in the bracket’s seventh game of the tournament, fans witnessed an instant classic.

The Five Points Bank senior American Legion baseball team battled Pinnacle Bank (Lincoln Southwest) for 11 innings. Both starting pitchers threw for more than eight innings, giving up two runs apiece. But it was a pitching mistake that led to a 3-2 FPB victory Monday at Brown Park in Omaha.

“We’ve had our backs against the wall five times now. We sent Lexington home, North Platte, Scottsbluff and now Southwest. We’ve got a lot of determination. Our effort has turned into production,” said Hastings coach Russ Kindig.
