Sutton drops first game at state

O’NEILL — The Sutton American Legion baseball team lost its first game of the Class C senior state tournament on Monday. Sutton was one win away from clinching a spot in the championship, but fell to Pender 7-4 in eight innings.

Sutton held a 2-0 advantage until Pender scored four runs in the fifth inning. But in the bottom of the seventh inning, Sutton tied the game at 4-4 on a Harrison Biehl single.

With the loss, Sutton drops into the loser’s bracket where it will play St. Paul at 5 p.m. today.
