Russ's Market continued to move forward with its expansion project this week, shutting down the section of Lexington Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets for good in the process.
In conjunction with the permanent street closure Tuesday, General Excavating of Lincoln began work on a new larger sewer system to be installed behind the current store at 611 N. Burlington Ave., store director Steve Richardson said Friday. A new water main will encircle the new store's footprint following completion of the new sewer line.
So far, the closure seems to be having little or no impact on operations at the store, Richardson said.
"Most of our traffic is off Burlington or Seventh Street," he said. "Lexington is not a main thoroughfare for us and never has been."
