Planned burn emotional for school’s patrons

Her eyes swelled with tears as she watched her childhood turn to ash.

Bonnie Campbell of Aurora spent most of Saturday watching the warmest place of her youth intentionally destroyed as firefighters used the old Tri-View School as training in a planned burn.

Firefighters have been conducting training in the old school for months, but Saturday the building was razed in a blaze of glory.

“I went to school here through fifth grade and my family moved but we still have land here,” Campbell said. “I thought it was ironic that the last thing to fall was the doorway after over 100 years of education. That’s what you went through and so many people did. They were all well-educated and what people have done since is a testimony to those women who taught us.”
