Hastings became the hub of an annual 600-mile road trip for more than 300 classic cars this weekend.

The Nebraska Rod & Custom Association, with 1,400 members statewide, came to the city to launch its 21st annual Tour Nebraska.

Gary Hedman of Doniphan, president of the NRCA, said the tour is a public relations event to show support for different cities through the state. He said the NRCA is a political watchdog group that examines bills before the Legislature for potential unintended consequences on motorists.

“We want to have a good time and create good, strong relations with communities,” he said. “It’s an economic benefit to those towns.”
