Kids attend Camp Invention at Watson

Eleven-year-olds (from left) Henry Schardt, Brady Creech,
Jarret Oschsner and Jared Coe use pieces of old electronics
as they brainstorm ideas for their pinball machine during
Invention Camp Tuesday at Watson Elementary.

Take the parts from a computer keyboard, add a cardboard frame, a bee theme and some beautifully drawn flowers and what do you get?

For one group of students at Camp Invention this week that combination eventually will turn into a bug-themed pinball machine.

The camp, held each summer at Watson Elementary, gives area students who have just completed grades 1-5 the opportunity to practice cooperation while using their creativity and science knowledge.

“The kids really like this because it’s fast-paced and it’s a lot of hands-on, creative activities,” said camp director Kim Creech.
