Edgar woman looking for a miracle

EDGAR — News of cancer shocked Craig and Shelley German of Edgar.

"I learned what the word devastation means," Craig said.

Shelley, 56, thought she had won. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2011. She had a double mastectomy. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

She had beaten the disease. Her scans at the end of December 2012 didn't show any signs of cancer.

Now it's back. It was lying dormant.

Friends have organized a benefit for German of Edgar. Named "Shine for Shelley," the fundraiser will start at 11 a.m. Sunday in the basement of the Masonic Center. The event will include a silent auction, raffle and bake sale as well as a freewill donation meal. At 2 p.m., there will be a live auction of donated items.
