Adams County Democrats elect new officers

The Adams County Democrats have elected Jamey Hamburger to serve as their chair for 2014-16 term.

In addition, Kathy Jensen was elected vice chair; Jake Rundle, secretary; and John Quirk, treasurer, at Wednesday's county convention.

The county's Democrats also elected Hamburger, Jensen, Rundle, Quirk, Kathy Peterson and Deb Hardin Quirk as delegates to the State Democratic Convention in August. Judy Sandeen, Brent Hultine and Jeffrey Hamburger will attend as alternates.

At Wednesday's local convention, the county group passed a resolution to amend the State Democratic Platform's section on mental health care. The proposed language would include a section on suicide prevention with emphasis on preventing youth suicide. It was noted during discussion that suicide ranks second in all causes of death for young Nebraskans.
