A Hastings High School teacher and coach is being remembered for his calming presence in the classroom, his positive attitude on the track — and his entertaining performances on the karaoke stage.
Tom Kutschkau, 62, of Grand Island died Thursday while on vacation with his wife, Yvonne, in Boston.
HHS Principal Jay Opperman described the longtime math teacher and assistant track coach as a gentle giant who was friendly and enjoyed helping students.

"As an organization, anytime you lose someone who's worked for the organization for that many years — 28 years — that's not easy," he said.
