HOLSTEIN — Not knowing what to expect, Rachelle Steiner’s opinion of the Miss Holstein pageant changed once she received her sash and tiara.
The 17-year-old rural Holstein girl — and Kenesaw High School senior-to-be — was selected among 10 contestants as Miss Holstein Saturday morning during the town’s quasquicentennial celebration.
“I was really not too excited to do this, but my brother signed me up and I’m glad he did because it was a great experience,” she said.
Steiner said her initial lack of enthusiasm came from the fact that the pageant was open to all Holstein girls in grades kindergarten through seniors in high school. Steiner knew she’d be competing against much younger girls.
“They all did wonderful,” she said.
Steiner stayed loose throughout the competition, which included a handful of questions from a panel of three judges. She giggled while answering the judges’ questions.
