City sets deadline for block parties

The Hastings City Council is hoping to crack down on an Independence Day block party near Brickyard Park because of safety issues.

Following last year's Fourth of July celebration at Brickyard, city officials received complaints from people who attended the fireworks show.

Their concern was while leaving the event, they had to weave through a block party in progress and dodge fireworks that were going off all around them.

The city council directed staff to set the end time on block parties at 9 p.m.
