KENESAW — With some good times this season, making the national high school finals is so close for Jordan Dassinger.
Dassinger, 17, is competing as a junior in this week's Nebraska High School Rodeo Finals in both barrel racing and pole bending. She will be a senior at Kenesaw High School this fall.
This will be her third season in high school rodeo, following a year in junior high rodeo as well as other performances when she was younger.
"Since I was 8, I've been in horse shows," she said. "I've been competing pretty much my whole life."
Going into the state finals, Dassinger is ranked sixth in barrel racing and 22nd in pole bending. The top four finishers in each event qualify for the national finals in Wyoming.
"We are very hopeful for this weekend," she said. "I just need a couple good runs in barrels and, hopefully, we can sneak into the top four. In poles, I am ranked a little higher, but I'm hopeful for a good two runs in that event, too," she said.
