Blue light special on emergency vehicles

Buyers gather for a police vehicle surplus auction Friday
afternoon in Hastings.

About 50 people braved 90-plus degree temperatures to bid on retired Hastings Police and Fire Department vehicles during a public auction Friday.

Held in the back lot of the old police station at 109 W. Second St., the auction featured nine police vehicles, four fire department vehicles and a portable generator.

Money raised from the auction will go into the city's general fund and be used toward the purchase of two or three new police vehicles, Capt.Gene Boner said.
