Father keeps daughter motivated during race

Dave Bennett, of Omaha, jumps into the Hastings Marathon
Saturday morning to keep his daughter Emily motivated to

Dave Bennett arrived too late to register for the Hastings Marathon.

Instead, he ran the second half of the half-marathon with his daughter, just to keep her motivated.

He jumped into the race at mile marker 7.

“I’m going to run with her out to the lake — I’m going to finish it with her for her moral support and because I need to,” Bennett said. “I started running again, and I want to keep going. I was going to run the 5K but I was too late, so I thought I’d just run the second half of the half (marathon) with her and call it good.”

Bennett, 53, of Omaha had two children running in the Hastings half-marathon — son Ethan, 21, and his 24-year-old daughter, Emily.
