MPH scene of Road Rage

Bicyclists compete in YMCA's Road Rage Sunday at Motorsport Park-Hastings.

Without needing to worry about traffic or potholes, bicyclists tested their endurance Sunday during the third annual Road Rage event at Motorsport Park Hastings.

Overall, riders racked up 1,601 miles during the eight-hour endurance race organized by the Hastings Family YMCA. Ten solo cyclists and five teams participated in this year’s event.

Solo bicyclist Jeff Doose of Grand Island took first place with 157 miles. In the team competition, Priority Express from Papillion took first with 146.2 miles.

Anne Hessler, YMCA wellness coordinator, said storms caused a bit of a scare in the morning, but the race didn’t need to be suspended. Most riders had set up canopies to provide protection from the weather.
