FC's Malone is Tribland girls track and field athlete of the year

championships May 18 in Omaha.

Sometimes, an individual is lucky to be born with the talent that makes him or her stick out in any athletic event.

Other times, a great team makes the best out of an individual.

The latter would be the case for Fillmore Central junior Audrey Malone, who has been named the Tribland girls track and field athlete of the year.

The Panthers placed second at the Class C girls state track meet earlier this month, and had stellar performances all season long from a variety of their competitors.

"Any one of those girls could've won it this year. They all stepped up," Malone said of being named the Tribune's top girls track athlete of 2013. "It's definitely a team award ... they shouldn't give it to just one. I mean, I'm extremely honored that I'm getting this, but my coaches and teammates have helped me so much."
