DONIPHAN — In a game that was dominated by pitching, one plate appearance decided the outcome.

Doniphan-Trumbull's Joe Dinan recorded a walk-off single on Tuesday to give his team a 3-2 victory over Minden in an American Legion seniors baseball game.

"I was just trying to put it in play because Kelan (Garrett) was on third. A deep hit to the outfield or even just putting it in play would probably have scored him," Dinan said.

With the game tied 2-2 and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Dinan faced a full count with runners on second and third. Dinan, who was just the second batter faced for Minden's Jonas Lovin, hit a line drive up the middle just out of reach of both Minden middle infielders.

When Dinan faced a 3-1 count, he bunted a ball foul in what appeared to be a squeeze attempt. D-T coach Jay Hartman said there was some confusion with the signs, but Dinan more than made up for it.
