JIH sweeps Norfolk

Norfolk base runner T.J. Price avoids the tag from Johnson
Imperial Homes' shortstop Vinny Schmidt during the first
game of their doubleheader Wednesday at Smith Softball
Complex.

The cancellation of Tuesday’s game against Grand Island didn’t throw the Johnson Imperial Homes junior American Legion baseball team off track.

On Wednesday, JIH got two big pitching performances while its offense totaled 20 runs in a two-game sweep of Norfolk at Prairie Ridge Park.

Four runs in the opening frame was plenty for starting pitcher Matt Krontz as JIH went on to win game one 12-1. In the nightcap, Hastings’ Cole Spady threw a five-inning shutout, winning 8-0.

“Between Cole Spady and Matt Krontz, they’re probably some of our better pitchers, and they had two great outings,” said JIH head coach Blake Marquardt. “They did exactly what they needed to do.”
