Maturity key to Wiedel’s success

HEBRON — At last year’s state track and field meet, Thayer Central’s Simon Wiedel made sure his name was known to spectators at Burke Stadium. As a freshman, Wiedel ran away with four medals, including two golds.

This year, Wiedel and the rest of the Titans won the Class C boys state championship for a second consecutive year as Wiedel was named the Tribland Track and Field Athlete of the Year for a second straight season. But Wiedel and the Titans both found out repeating is an even more grueling task.

“The whole year it was tough, because once you win you have that target on your back,” Wiedel said.
