JIH stays unbeaten in league play

Johnson Imperial Homes' Trey Asher makes a catch against North Platte
Tuesday night at Duncan Field in Hastings

It took some late inning heroics, but the Johnson Imperial Homes American Legion baseball team swept North Platte to improve to 7-0 in the Cornhusker League.

JIH opened the day with a 5-3 win in game No. 1 and relied on some clutch hitting to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 5-3.

"(The sweep) means we control our own fate still. We're not relying on other teams, as far as league goes, winning and losing," Marquardt said.

"We have three (league) games left, and wins like this keeps us in the momentum we need. As far as morale, beating a team like this — this is one of the better teams we've faced. So coming out and staying in the game against two quality pitchers and a team that can hit hopefully tells (our) guys they can play with the best teams in the state."
