The Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes junior legion baseball team finished with a split against the Beatrice Eagles on Sunday, and in both games showed something different.
Game one was sloppy and emotional, as JIH fell 11-6 while giving up six errors. In game two, though, JIH starter Brooks Asher nearly pitched a no-hitter and the defense tallied two double plays and just one error in a dominating 14-4 win. Both games ended after six innings.
Asher went five complete innings, finishing with three strikeouts, three walks and three hit batters while giving up just one hit. That hit was a single by Beatrice's Braden Nowka in the top of the fifth. Asher, who had given up two runs in the third inning despite not allowing a hit, gave up all four Beatrice runs.
