FPB falls to Kearney 5-3

In one of its most important league games of the season, the Hastings Five Points Bank legion baseball team couldn't come up with a clutch hit.

FPB, which ranked second in the Cornhusker League heading into the game with a 5-2 record, stranded two or more runners on base three times in a 5-3 loss to league leader Kearney Runza (9-6, 6-0).

Hastings left two runners on base in the second and fourth innings, and left them loaded in the fifth. In all, FPB left 10 potential runs on base.

"The kids played well, but we just didn't get a few key hits in some key situations," said FPB assistant coach Dave Illingworth, who was serving as head coach after his dad, Steve, was serving a suspension after being tossed out of game in North Platte the night before. "We had runners on second, but we didn't pick them up enough times. We just fell a little short tonight."
