Riese says Hall of Fame induction great honor

Ron Riese was recently inducted into the Hastings
baseball hall of fame.

Ron Riece had no idea when he attended the Hastings American Legion's First Pitch Baseball Banquet on April 25 at City Auditorium that he would join the city's elite baseball talents as a member of the Hastings Baseball Hall of Fame.

Riece, 67, has been a friend of the local American Legion program for roughly four decades, serving as coach, umpire, administrator, and most recently, fundraiser for the organization. Known as the chairman who once toted enough replacement equipment in his car to field two teams, he was instrumental in bringing the indoor batting facilities and scoreboard to Duncan Field.

In addition to his induction, Riece was also presented an award named in his honor. The Ron Riece Service Award will continue to recognize the contributions of future baseball leaders in the community. The award carries an automatic nod into the Hall of the Fame.
