Spongberg ready for next level

It's been a year to remember for Sutton's Steve Spongberg.

As an assistant coach for the Sutton football team, Spongberg helped lead the Mustangs to an appearance in the Class C-2 state title game.

In the spring, Spongberg was the head coach of the Sutton boys basketball team, which advanced to the C-2 state championship game.

And now, Spongberg's Class C American Legion Sutton baseball team looks poised to make run at its third straight state title.

However, on Tuesday, Hastings College announced Spongberg was going to take over the Broncos' baseball program — an opportunity Spongberg said doesn't come around often.

"I feel I still have the enthusiasm to help the college become a team that's a championship-caliber team year in and year out," he said.
